Book Blog Directory

Wow, somehow I was included in the massive list of book bloggers based on my one entry on Eat, Pray, Love. It pays to have a # as your blog name, apparently, because I’m second on the list! Haha =D Well, that’s pretty sweet, and now I added a button thing to the right.

As much as I wish to consume books like I do chocolate, I read way too slow to become a “hardcore” book blogger (like some of the fellow bloggers on the list). I also don’t like to go in depth to analyze books and write long reviews – so I doubt my reviews will ever be comprehensive. All of that to say, please just take it for what it is, just my opinion and thoughts! Thanks =)

Book: Eat, Pray, Love

Eat, Pray, LoveEat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

At first I was excited for this book because the author seemed like someone I could relate to – traveling around the world to “find herself”. About 10 chapters into the book, even though I was very attached and wanted to finish, I had to put it down. Reading this book reminded me of my own journal! The woman is very emotional and even though it’s a fun (read: dramatic) read, I decided I might as well just read my journal and reflect on my own life – and review my life lessons that way. I really liked her writing style though, easily draws the reader into her life.

Boys Will Put You on a Pedestal (so They Can Look up Your Skirt)Boys Will Put You on a Pedestal by Philip Van Munching

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A father’s insights for his daughters. I didn’t agree with ALL of the chapters, but it was a refreshing perspective. He shares personal stories in each chapter to help persuade his point, instead of forcing it down. Great read for teenage daughters, or even those older!

Embrace it!

November 8, 2011

If you know anything about me, you probably know that I love everything organization. Planners & calendars are my best friends. I read blogs about time management, productivity, budgeting, business organization, home organization…etc. I feel quite lost when my room is not organized. And you’ve probably heard me say something like “I need to organize my life!!”

I’ve always thought it was due to my lack of discipline (which is still partially an issue) that I wouldn’t follow through with my plans. I would plan and plan and plan, and then I would change my mind. I would schedule my days down to the hour, and then do things completely on the fly. “Gosh what is wrong with me!!” I would make commitments to try harder, or consider signing up for bootcamp to get disciplined.

Recently, I’ve come to the realization that this “passion” of mine actually doesn’t fit my personality in the way that I would like. I am actually quite a spontaneous person.

I now understand why I am completely content just wandering around NYC or Chicago for a day trip by myself – meet up with friends if they are free, walk in and out of random stores, museums, bookstores, coffee shops .. and just see where I end up. It’s really the best way to breathe in fresh air and be thankful to be alive to enjoy the day.

So, I’m trying a new thing. I’m going to embrace this aspect of myself. See it as a positive to be flexible and adaptable, and use it to my advantage!

I still like crossing things off my to-do lists and follow through with commitments, but maybe I don’t need to waste time planning so much when I’m not gonna do it anyway. I’m just gonna let my free-spirited side just BE.. for awhile. We’ll see how it goes!

Marketing

November 1, 2011

These days, I am realizing that I AM such a marketing major. I LOVE proclaiming and sharing the cool and interesting things that I find. Not only that, it makes me happy to stand behind a worthy product or cause.

The GOOD NEWS is something pretty amazing to stand behind. But why am I more hesitant and afraid to do what I love to do when it comes to the Gospel?

I want to be fearless! I’m going to get a haircut.
